Hello everyone!
How to reduce repo size?
Last time I asked Atlassian team to ran garbage collection, but now I don't have this option.
What do I need to do?
Hi @aidyntemekov,
I can run a garbage collection for your repo. Can you please provide the repo name masked (e.g. the first two and last two letters of the repo, or any combination of letters from its name that will help me identify it among the ones you have access to)?
Please keep in mind that the garbage collection by itself may not be enough if you version large and/or binary files in the repo. However, I can run the git gc first, and if needed, I can provide you with further steps on how to reduce the repo's size.
Kind regards,
Theodora

Hi @aidyntemekov!
Thank you for the info. I ran a git gc on this repository; its size has been reduced, but not by a lot.
I would suggest reducing the repo's size further, if possible. You can check this reply of mine to a different question, where I share more details.
If you decide to proceed with the steps mentioned in that post and rewrite history in the repo with BFG, please keep in mind that the repo's size will get increased again once you push your changes. The repo will then need another git gc for the old commits (prior to history rewrite) to get removed and to get its size reduced. You can let me know here, and I can run another git gc for the repo.
If you have any questions about the information I shared in the post I linked, please feel free to let me know as well.
Kind regards,
Theodora

I think 1.34 gb is enough, I didn't quite understand from your answer how to use the BFG method

Hi @aidyntemekov,
If the size is good enough for you, that's ok.
I share quite a lot of info in the post I linked in my previous reply. In case you decide to reduce your repo's size further, please let me know which part or which parts of my reply are unclear, and I can explain further.
Kind regards,
Theodora

It is still the same ping-Atlassian "process".
I see people asking for the same on this community site, then someone from Atlassian replies to them and runs the garbage collection in their repo.
