How to migrate Bitbucket repository from bitbucket to Gitlab

Hi Team,

We are planning to do migration Bitbucket repository (DataCenter) from bitbucket to Gitlab.

Could you please guide us on below queries?

1. What are the pre-requisite for this migration from both side (Bitbucket and Gitlab)

2. How to perform this migration from the scratch? Please share the migration steps

3. Let us know know the migration limitation as well?

Regards,

Dnyaneshwar Borase

Hi @Dnyaneshwar Borase ,

It's possible to migrate Bitbucket to Gitlab using backup tools.

I work at GitProtect.io, a backup and DR software for GitLab, Bitbucket, GitHub and Jira. Using our cross-over recovery feature, it's possible to restore data from Bitbucket to GitLab (and converserly). You can read in more details how it works in the following article: https://gitprotect.io/blog/bitbucket-to-gitlab-migration-in-a-few-simple-steps/

Or you can contact our team to ask questions that interest you: https://calendly.com/bjurga/30min?month=2023-09

Here is GitProtect.io on Atlassian Marketplace: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1225728/gitprotect-io-backup-for-bitbucket?hosting=cloud&tab=overview

Hi Daria Kulikova,

Thanks for reply and suggesting this plugin but we need standard migration without using any plugin which Atlassian recommends.

Is there way to do Bitbucket repository to Gitlab migration without any plugin?

Regards,

Dnyaneshwar Borase

Hi, have you looked at the out-of-the-box options that GitLab offers:

Those instructions provide pretty substantial features to migrate the most important details as far as I can tell.

We are also looking into doing this, from Bitbucket Server to GitLab self-managed.
