How do I open the public key file?

I need to open the file to copy the contents into bitbucket but there is no application on my computer that can open it and the instructions don't say how to open the file.

Hi Richard, welcome to the Community! You don't need to open the file in the sense of executing it, as we do with other kinds of files, you just need to see its content so you can copy it and add it to Bitbucket. To do so, open your terminal and do:

cat ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub

(where ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub is the location of the file)

You may see an email address on the last line. It doesn't matter whether or not you include the email address.
