Disable Public Repositories

G'Day Atlassians!

As I said, we want to be able to disable the ability to create a public repository. However, we are not on the server version, and all I can find is instructions to do it with the server.

Any ideas beyond consistent monitoring? Also is there a way to get BitBucket to notify me every time a repository is created?

Thanks in Advance!

Hi Michele!

I'm afraid that there is no option to disable public repos at the moment or get a notification when a repo is created.

What you can do is ensure that all projects of the workspace are set to private (from Project settings > Project details). When someone creates a repo under a private project, the option to make the repo public is disabled.

You can also enable the option Keep this workspace private from Workspace settings. This way, if someone visits your workspace URL, they will see a "Resource not found" message. If by any chance there is a public repo (in a public project) and someone has the repo URL, they could still access the repo. However, keeping the workspace private, prevents someone from seeing a list with any public repos when they access the workspace URL.

We have a feature request for the ability to disable public repos on the workspace level:

You can add your vote to this request to express your interest and add yourself as a watcher if you'd like to get notified via email on updates.

We also have a feature request for getting a notification when a repo is created:

The request has been closed because of inactivity. However, you can add your feedback there, as our product managers continue to monitor even closed requests.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Kind regards,
Theodora

Hi Theodora,

I have voted for the disable ticket and I see that the notification ticket is closed but I have left a comment on it.

I appreciate your help here!

Thanks!
