Copying the home directory during the upgrade

Cynthia Kato July 13, 2020

Hi - traditionally our chef cookbook defines the new version in an attributes file and then copies the current home directory to the new home directory (both include the version at the end of the name in the attributes file).  I know your home directory directions clearly state not to *move* the home directory, but I'm wondering if it's ok to copy a home directory if it's always in the same parent directory.  Example: cp -R /bitbucket/bitbucket-home-6.4.2 /bitbucket/bitbucket-home-7.3.1.

We've always done this in the past without any issues of corruption - is this practice ok to continue?  Thanks, Cindy
