I have a mac, but the actual code is on a remote (AWS I assume) unix box. I ssh into the unix box and do all of my work there. Is there a way to get sourcetree on my mac to connect to the repo on the unix box?

Is the only way to do this to make a copy of the repo on my local machine, pull from the repo on the unix box, and then push to bitbucket?

I haven't tried to do that, because it seems hard, and dumb, so I'm not even sure if that will work, but is that the way?
