Cannot login via Git Extensions/VS Code any more

Those new to the Atlassian Community have posted less than three times. Give them a warm welcome!
I cannot get this to work and it has been broken for several weeks now and I keep having a half-hearted attempt but I really need to get to the bottom of it.
I use Git Extensions on Windows 10. When I attempt to push it just asks for the password.
The same is happening with VS Code.
I get a window like (first-image) and then (second-image) and it doesn't work.
I've tried using my email address that is my Atlassian account, and the username that is in the profile and always worked before.
I didn't change the password when it stopped working but I have done a password reset to try to flush the issue out. It has not helped.
Why I have been forsaken?? :)
