Cannot login - standard Bitbucket account with GMail username

Miha Vitorovič August 30, 2023

Hello, I've created a standard Bitbucket account, but used my GMail email as the username.

Now I can no longer log in, since the moment the system detect a GMail related username it forces you to log in with google.

How can I get either access to my original with the GMail like username, or at least transfer my project to a GMail authenticated user? At the moment I am totally stuck.

Thanks and be well, Miha

(@Ben) It allows me to log in. It's just that I get to an empty Bitbucket - I'm asked to create a desktop.

The problem is that I've created a repository some years ago that I now cannot find with any of my BitBucket usernames (I have a private one and I have a business one). It's been a while since I logged in, but I think it's connected to my private account. Anyhow, whichever user I log in as, I cannot access my repo. And the private user behaves like I'm logging in for the first time.

To get to the repo in the past I used to log in without an email address (just a plain username, but that no longer works). I simply don't know. We'll at least I didn't lose my code :)

P.s.: I meant to answer this directly to you Ben, but must have clicked on the wrong "Reply" button.

Br, Miha

Hi Miha,

Thank you for confirming.

Essentially, logging in via username has been deprecated in favour of email address - it is, therefore, likely that the workspace that holds your code is associated with a different email address (hence why signing in using your gmail account has created a blank workspace as a workspace did not already exist that belonged to this gmail account).

This issue cannot effectively be solved within our community, and therefore I have opened a support ticket on your behalf using this gmail address. I will communicate with you further on that ticket as it's likely you will need to share output that could contain sensitive information that would not be appropriate to share on a public forum.

Cheers! :)

Thank you! I'll switch to ticket as soon as I receive it.

Hi Miha,

You should not be forced to log in using Google unless you've specifically configured single sign-on for that account with Google as the IDP.

If you navigate to https://id.atlassian.com - you should be able to simply enter your email address into the username field rather than clicking the "Login with Google" prompt.

Are you unable to login at this stage? If so I will need to raise a support ticket on your behalf with our Jira Cloud team as they handle issues related to Atlassian Account login issues.

Cheers!

As soon as I enter a username that contains @Gmail.com I get this:

"Different method" link takes me back to step 1.

Hi again,

When you do authenticate via SSO - does it allow you to actually login with Google or do you receive some kind of error?

Cheers!
