Branch tag-based restriction does not seem to work

Simon Barbier September 28, 2023

Hi all,

I would like to put in place a tag restriction on my repo. I found the following article https://confluence.atlassian.com/bitbucketserver/branch-permission-patterns-776639814.html but it seems to not work properly, at least for me.

So what I want is to restrict tagging a commit.

I setup the following in bitbucket's repo's setting:

refs.png

But i'm still able to tag a commit from the bitbucket UI

tagging.pngtagged.png

Could you help me to understand what happened ?

I'm using the cloud version of bitbucket

Hi Simon,

Unfortunately - tag restrictions are not yet available in Bitbucket Cloud. Branch restrictions are purely to restrict read/write operations from branches and implement PR restrictions.

We have a feature request raised with our developers, however, to implement this. Please feel free to Watch this for future updates and Vote for it to improve its visibility with regard to customer demand:

Cheers!

Hi Ben,

wouldn’t it more user friendly to not allow refs on the cloud version for the time being (and more clearly inform about the difference between the licences in the documentation)?

Well @Benthe ticket your relate to is 8 years old… many people explains the security impact of this (tags are often use to mark release and use to trigger deployments), and Bitbucket team seems to not give a shit… wow, I’m highly disappointed.

i switched from GitLab for this project, but I will reconsider my decision. That’s a basic feature that should be included, and check the comments to see how people are urgently needing this!
