Bitbucket Lockout recovery process not working

WalterJ January 20, 2020

We have a Bitbucket Server 5.16 running on a Windows server. We needed to change the IP address of our Jira server and we cannot login into bitbucket again.

I've added

set "JVM_SUPPORT_RECOMMENDED_ARGS=-Datlassian.recovery.password=xxxxxx"

to _start-webapp.bat

and tried starting bitbucket with:

start-bitbucket.bat

but it doesn't bring up port 7990, only when I do it from:

start_service.bat

and if I use start_service I cannot login with the admin_recovery.

So I'm locked out of the server, any ideas?

Hi Walter,

If you're running Bitbucket Server as a service on Windows you need to define the JVM parameters somewhere else, see https://confluence.atlassian.com/bitbucketserverkb/how-to-update-the-jvm-configuration-for-a-windows-service-800715342.html

Instead of adding the parameter to _start-webapp.bat add -Datlassian.recovery.password=xxxxxx  to the Java Options field in the service definition dialog.

Cheers,
