Benefits of Jira and Bitbucket Integration

My company runs Bitbucket and Jira but they are not currently integrated.  What are the benefits to making this integration?  I see smart commits are added and  the visibility and some control of either app from within the other.

Is there a definitive list or resource indicating the advantages of the integration, is there any downside for making the integration.

Also from what I have read it seems that existing repos cannot benefit from the integration only newly created ones?

I'm listing them below as well with some additional links:

• If you reference a Jira issue key in a commit message, pull request title, description or comment, that issue key will become a link to the respective Jira issue.
  
  
• In a Bitbucket repository, there will be an option Jira issues on the sidebar at the left, where you can link Jira projects to view their issues on that page.
  
  
• You can create Jira issues from Bitbucket.
  
  
• You can transition Jira issues during a pull request merge
  
  
• You can enable and use smart commits.
  
  
• On your Bitbucket Dashboard (https://bitbucket.org/dashboard/overview), you can view Jira issues assigned to you
  
  
  
• In Jira, in a referenced issue, you can view any associated commits, pull requests, and branches (that have an issue key in their name) in the development panel 
  
  
• You can create branches and pull requests from the development panel as well.
  
  
• In a Jira Software project, you will see the Code option which will display any repo that references this project's Jira issues
  
  
• You can use Automation in Jira to automate tasks across Jira and Bitbucket

Do you perhaps have the link where you read that so I can see what exactly this is referring to and whether it is correct?

You can use the features I mentioned above in both existing and newly created repos.
