Allowing Branch Creation Under Protected Branch Path in Bitbucket Cloud: Enforcing Pull Request Work

Hi,

I'm using Bitbucket Cloud for my repository and have implemented protected branches to ensure code quality and review.

However, I want to allow all users in my project to create branches under a protected branch path, while still enforcing a pull request workflow for code submission and review.

Is there a way to configure Bitbucket Cloud to achieve this workflow? I appreciate any insights or recommendations from the Bitbucket community on how to achieve this balance between branch creation and pull request enforcement.

Thank you

Hello @Oguz Gurler and welcome to the Community!

I'm afraid this is currently not possible in Bitbucket Cloud. For a user to be able to create a branch under a protected branch pattern, they will need to have write permissions to that branch.

We have an open feature request to include a branch permissions rule that allows branch creation but not direct writing (enforcing pull request) :

I would suggest you to add your vote there, since this helps both developers and product managers to understand the interest. Also, make sure you add yourself as a watcher in case you want to receive first-hand updates from that ticket. Please note that all features are implemented with this policy in mind.

Thank you, @Oguz Gurler !
