Note: BITBUCKET_APP_PASSWORD has been created in App password section with all privilege's.
Was there a resolution to this? I've tried passing my user id and generated app password as variables and plaintext with the same results.
I found the answer here, Solved: ✖ API request failed with status 401. Check your u... (atlassian.com) I was using my users email not the explicit username associated with the user.

Also, you could re-set up Repository Variables, to make sure you copy-paste values without trail spaces or other symbols in the value.
