The Latest from Bitbucket Server & Data Center

Hi everyone,

Hosana here from the Bitbucket product marketing team. As we embark on our 3rd month of remote work, I wanted to share a roundup of the product updates from the last few months and a preview of what’s coming.

  • Code insights merge checks: an expansion of functionality from our original Code Insights feature in 5.15, users can now use these reports to block pull requests that present vulnerabilities from being merged until they’ve met all of your requirements. This ensures that pull requests are fully vetted and only code of the highest quality hits production.

  • Jenkins integration: allows users to seamlessly configure a Jenkins job to clone/fetch from Bitbucket Server, removing the need for multiple plugins/apps to achieve the same workflow. One of the many features we have planned to bring CI closer to your team’s Bitbucket workflow.

  • A refreshed pull request experience: 7.0 introduced several new (highly requested) features that improve collaboration, usability, and search functionality. So much so, we think it’s our best pull request experience yet, read all about it here.

  • Integrated CI/CD (coming soon): as part of our commitment to improving the developer experience, we’re building tighter integrations between Bitbucket and the leading CI/CD vendors. Starting with Jenkins and Bamboo, this new experience will minimize the need to constantly switch between products and will make maintaining your pipeline easier than ever!

Data Center updates:

  • Smart Mirror Farms: built to improve git clone speeds and increase CI/CD capacity for distributed teams, smart mirrors, allow teams to set up one or more live mirror node to host copies of repositories in remote locations. Teams can also cluster mirrors into “farms” grouped behind a load balancer to reduce time spent waiting for builds.

  • Rate limiting: increases instance stability by giving admins the ability to control how many REST API requests automations and scripts can make, and how often they can make them, meaning increased performance and team productivity.

  • Support for Amazon Aurora: a reliable, durable, and fault-tolerant relational database that’s built for true high availability and enables teams to tackle downtime from multiple angles. To learn more, check out this page .

  • Advanced Auditing (coming soon): provides organizations the visibility and security-relevant digital records needed to help demonstrate compliance, improve security, and improve workflow.

We’re always eager to hear your feedback on any of the above (which features are you using or excited about? what do you like? what would you change?), so feel free to leave your comments below.

Regarding Jenkins integration - it would be really great if you would provide more detailed information. Will it be possible to trigger Jenkins job exactly on Pull request creation?

@Hosana  thank you for response! Plugin looks really great but two problems:

1) we are not able to create issues in related github repository: https://github.com/jenkinsci/atlassian-bitbucket-server-integration-plugin

2) in link you provide there is answer from @Mikael Sandberg is that triggering on pull request is not yet supported. From our perspective this is very important feature and would be good if it would be developed.
