We’re keenly aware that web and git performance is important to helping our users get work done, and particularly the impact that distance and latency has on some user experiences, so we’re always looking for solutions which can help speed up transactions with Bitbucket Cloud. Our network team has come up with a solution that will help speed those up significantly (by about 20% or more) by leveraging AWS Global Accelerator. We’ll be activating this improvement for all users: free and paid.
This change will introduce some new IP ranges to Bitbucket Cloud that have been part of our Atlassian Cloud IP ranges for a number of years, so please read-on and update any allowlists (e.g. access-lists, firewalls, security groups) you might be involved in operating that have rules specific to Bitbucket Cloud.
This new improvement leverages AWS’s Global Accelerator product to move traffic to and from Bitbucket Cloud via 83 Points of Presence in 73 cities across 38 countries, potentially dramatically speeding up transaction times. Users will benefit from a faster experience while navigating the product in their browser and faster GIT transactions.
Our plan is to start enabling Amazon Global Accelerator for Bitbucket.org from September 15th. It will be a gradual process to ensure minimal disruptions to our customers.
Customers do not need to do anything to activate the improved speeds and networking.
This feature will leverage existing Atlassian Cloud IP ranges that have been listed on our website since 2019 however some are new to Bitbucket Cloud.
We have updated our Bitbucket cloud documentation for IPs to allowlist.
Webhook IPs will remain unchanged.
Existing ranges will continue to operate for some time - we are only adding new ones.
