upgrading from 5.12 what a nightmare

Robert Webster February 4, 2019

Following the upgrade instructions:

Stop bamboo

Uninstall the service for Bamboo

Zip the Bamboo-Home Directory.

Download version 5.14

install 5.14  Instructions say install a new instance.

the install screen says     "Update the existing"

                                        "install into a new directory"

I've tried both...  the upgrade instructions say follow these guidelines (takes you to a different document) if you follow those instructions you just did a new install. (maybe that what you are supposed to do... but nothing references that.  The upgrade is supposed to run automatically, but it can't because it want s a new license.

is what I am supposed to do really this?

Stop bamboo

Uninstall the service for Bamboo

Zip the Bamboo-Home Directory.

Download version 5.14

install 5.14  Instructions say install a new instance.

this means when the install program asks I select "install into a different directory"

I really do follow the path to do a new install

this would get a new license installed, it will also import the existing bamboo-home from the zip file.

then when this is completed, you stop Bamboo, make the changes to the bamboo-init.properties file, to point back to the original Bamboo install.

and then start Bamboo again?

This could work because the license is already installed, Bamboo-home is imported now, Bamboo would convert the database to the new database automatically when you start it.

if this is correct, please let me know.

Why don't instruction tell you this?

Hi!

In reality, steps can be different :)

I suppose you need to read this one

https://confluence.atlassian.com/bamboo/bamboo-upgrade-guide-720411366.html

BTW, 5.12 super old version.

I suggest to use 6.8.0 :)

I am doing for upgrade next step.

1. Read upgrade notes

2. VM snapshot

3. Download tar.gz

4. Unpack

5. Set init, bin configs. in reality is copy paste as adapts from previous one.

5. Set correct ownership

6. stop bamboo

7. unlink from current version

8. link to new one.

9. run bamboo

Hope it helps.

Cheers,
