Bamboo 7.2   introduced conditional tasks.

However, the Java BambooSpec reference does not mention how can I configure a Variable condition on the parser task that I can configure via UI. Is that possible?

ok, the answer is here and with that approach you get:

new TestParserTask(TestParserTaskProperties.TestType.MOCHA)
.conditions(new AnyTaskCondition(new AtlassianModule("com.atlassian.bamboo.plugins.bamboo-conditional-tasks:variableCondition"))
.configuration(new MapBuilder()
.put("variable", "SKIP_TEST_PARSING")
.put("operation", "not_equals")
.put("value", "1")
.build()))
.resultDirectories("**/mocha.json"))
