Run Bamboo service as a Local Service after upgrading to Bamboo 7.x

This is to bring to your notice that you might face issues with starting Bamboo as a Windows service after upgrading Bamboo to 7.x. You will also likely not see any entries in <bamboo-home>/logs/atlassian-bamboo.log when you attempt to start.

This is due to changes in recent versions of Tomcat and the Commons Daemon, the default user for the Bamboo Service in Bamboo 7.0.2 and above is Local Service instead of Local System. The local service user has a lower authorization level than the local system account so it’s likely that many of the files cannot be read, thus you do not see any entries in the log file when you attempt to start Bamboo service after the upgrade.

To work around the restrictions of the Local Service user, our recommendation is to change the service to run as a local user as described in this page:
