Bamboo Data Center is here!

G’day Bamboo customers,

The wait is over! Bamboo Data Center edition you have been asking for is finally here! This self-managed enterprise offering of Bamboo has the resilience, reliability, and security that enterprise teams require from their mission-critical tools.

What are the core benefits?

Core benefits of the first edition of Bamboo Data Center are improved build resilience, cold standby high availability, and project level build resources.

Improved build resilience is a fail-safe for protecting your build results.

With build resilience, when an instance goes down, you won’t lose the results of your builds. Builds that were in progress, will be allowed to continue. Agents will wait for the server to be back online, to deliver build results, logs, and artifacts. As a result, after an instance outage, you will be able to quickly access your build results and execute deployments.

Cold standby high availability minimizes the possibility of a downtime.

Bamboo is a crucial part of the delivery pipeline. When it’s down, new code changes can’t be delivered - teams can’t deploy. Cold standby high availability makes disaster recovery possible and minimizes downtime, by introducing an automated failover process.

In the event of an outage, not only will jobs and build results be maintained, but the load balancer will detect that the active instance went down, start the cold instance, and redirect all traffic there. With shared filesystem, the backup instance will resume the work where the previous one left, getting teams back online faster and ensuring that work stays on track.

Project level build resources improve security, as less people need admin rights.

Project level build resources consist of project shared credentials, project repositories, and project variables. It allows for more isolation between tenants and possibility to delegate responsibilities to teams on the project level.

Are there any platform improvements?

Of course! We have added support for:

  • Java SE 11

  • MySQL 8

  • PostgreSQL 13

Hello there,

Our company has a bamboo server license, and we are looking to renew it. I understand that these licenses will no longer be sold. In that case we would have to go from Server to Data Center, my question is, if after migrating to Data Center, will there be big changes, or necessary configurations to adapt our projects?

I see that many of the marketplace apps we would need are not available. Do you feel the vendors are going to make a compatible app for DC sometime soon?

Will there be a quick install for AWS like you have for Bitbucket DC https://aws.amazon.com/quickstart/architecture/bitbucket/

@Phill Pafford we are not planning to add such type of install at the moment, however it's now possible to use kubernetes helm charts for provisioning Bamboo DC and for deploying the agents: https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Atlassian-Data-Center-on/Bamboo-Data-Center-helm-charts-are-here/ba-p/1906861https://community.developer.atlassian.com/t/helm-charts-ga-and-terraform-beta-available-for-bamboo-dc-apps-performance-testing/54978

@Shari Barchus we launched the DC Apps Program for Bamboo last month, so the first certified apps should start to be available soon: https://community.developer.atlassian.com/t/bamboo-data-center-apps-program-launch/54467 For now all of the server apps will work with Bamboo DC (to give marketplace vendors time to certify them), even though the UPM will label them as incompatible.

@Carmen Nereyda Vásquez Hernandez if you chose to run Bamboo Data Center on a single node big adjustments shouldn't be necessary - here are the update notes

Here are the requirements for clustering in case you'd like to take advantage of the cold standby high availability
