'When version released' rule doesn't see released version

Anastasiia Tsvetkova December 21, 2023

Hi, everyone. Could you please help me figure out why my Automation rule doesn't trigger at all.

It seems that the 'When version released' rule doesn't see the released version that was triggered by another previous rule.

And after the first rule I have to go to Releases and unrelease it manually and release again to make other rules work.

1. The first rule I have is 'When all issues moved to Live - release a version' that ends with 'Release version' rule. There are no specific settings mentioned1.jpg

2. And after this rule I have two Rules that go after previous one:

  1. After the version releases send Slack
  2. After the version released create another one

both of them use basic trigger 'When version released'. None of them use Version name filter. Coz I have only one version at a time. (Probably should? )

Thank you for any help

Hi @Anastasiia Tsvetkova

For a question like this, please post complete images of the rules involved, and the audit log details showing the rule execution.  Those will provide context to help the community offer suggestions.  Thanks!

Until we see those...

It appears you have one rule which is using the Release Version action, a second rule triggered on Version Released, but the second rule is not starting.

By default, the actions of one rule cannot trigger another rule.  This prevents accidental looping and performance problems.

When you intentionally want the actions of one rule to trigger another, enable the "Allow Rule Trigger" option in the details at the top of the second rule: https://support.atlassian.com/cloud-automation/docs/create-and-edit-jira-automation-rules/#Configure-your-new-rule

Kind regards,
Bill
