What does Atlassian Intelligence use when creating child issues/improving issues?

Hi all,

I've been using AI in Jira here and there to help fill out detail in epics and some story level issues, which has been particularly useful where I've added a half decent description with a few bullets.

What want to understand is where the 'Create child issues' and 'Improve issue' functions get the inputs? Ideally, I would like to read the content (even if just the summaries) of existing child issues and then either

  • Create a summary of the work done to add to the epic description, or as a comment
  • Create new child issues e.g. to suggest tasks which may be missing from the existing epic

As it stands I'm not sure of this is possible. It's great that we can summarise comments, but often in small teams, stories and tasks may be light on content, especially on comments, so summarising the actual issues in an epic would be really helpful.

I'd love to hear others thoughts on this, and any suggestions for how to approach this. Would also be great of course to hear from Atlassian on whether this is a feature we might see in the future.

Thanks!

Hi Joe,

It’s interesting to hear about your challenges with the ‘Create child issues’ function. I’ve noticed similar gaps when using AI in Jira, which inspired me to build a solution offering granular control over what data to use and how.

For example, one of the use cases I’ve explored is automatically generating epic details by summarising and structuring information from its child issues. This has helped me create comprehensive overviews without manual effort.

Would you be open to sharing your thoughts or exploring this further? Your insights would really help shape what I’m working on: lasoapp.com
