Imagine this: you put a lot of thought and time into planning your work every cycle/sprint, often creating sizeable chunks of work (usually represented by an epic). But you’re not done — you then need to devote even more time and effort breaking those epics into user stories.
In our conversations with many customers, we know that a project owner can often spend anywhere between 3-7 business days every planning cycle:
Analyzing the business requirements
Converting them into user stories with functional and non-functional requirements
Writing acceptance criteria and test cases for those user stories
Assigning assignee and priority, to essentially break down an epic into many user stories
This rote work is uninspiring and often repetitive — and sometimes error-prone. What if this drudge work didn’t have to be so time-consuming and you could spend your time more efficiently?
Soon, gone will be the days where you have to dread figure out the best way to split a large piece of work into smaller tasks for your team to deliver.
Introducing AI work breakdown — leveraging Atlassian Intelligence (AI), you can break your (big) issue into child issues so you don’t have to spend as much time planning and, instead, can spend more time doing things that matter.
You’ll find yourself at home with the child issue creation experience you’re already familiar with — except it’s faster. Say goodbye to typing out issues one by one. Let AI do the heavy lifting; simply choose what issue type you want suggestions for.
Created an epic in Jira but have your requirements on a Confluence page? Simply link a Confluence page to an issue, and we’ll use relevant context to suggest child issues. AI work breakdown will respect your current user permissions, so you can be assured it will only pull from documents you specify.
AI not only suggests child issues but also pre-fills the necessary details — but users always remain in control. Review, adjust, and refine details like summary and description as needed before suggestions are created into actual issues.
We understand the need for flexibility. If the AI suggestions don’t hit the mark, no problem. Simply tell AI what changes to make, and it’ll generate a refined list of suggestions! This ensures that you always remain in control of your project’s direction.
We’re rolling out AI work breakdown to all premium and enterprise Jira users over the next few weeks!
While this new feature is currently limited to Jira, it will be able to connect to plug-ins and access data from your other Atlassian products in order to provide its full functionality. For example, while it may only be turned on and available for use in your Jira instance, it will be able to leverage information based on user permissions in linked Confluence pages to suggest child issues & subtasks.
As you may have seen from previous announcements, Atlassian Intelligence will be automatically activated for many Atlassian Premium and Enterprise cloud products starting May 6, at absolutely no extra cost to you. Starting May 6th, Atlassian Intelligence features (including beta features, in addition to those generally available) in Jira will also be automatically activated for all Premium and Enterprise plans.
You can also activate or deactivate Atlassian Intelligence now or anytime in the future.
Atlassian is dedicated to building its solutions in alignment with our responsible technology principles, and will continue to follow our existing data security and privacy practices.
