[Natural Language Search in Jira] Welcome to Beta!

Welcome to the private community group for Atlassian Intelligence! I’m Jordan, the Product Manager for our natural language search feature in Jira Cloud.

This new AI-powered search mode is a faster and more accessible way to find the work you are looking for. By combining the ease of basic search and natural language querying with the power of JQL, we are excited to unlock the full power of Jira for even more users! As with all of our Atlassian Intelligence features, we’re building fast, and are excited to share the beta version of the feature with you over the coming months.

Here's how to use this feature:

  1. Select your favorite Jira Software project

  2. Select the Issues view option from the side panel. If the Issues view is not appearing for you, ask your admin to go into project settings -> features and toggle Issue Navigator on.

  3. Click the “AI” button to the left of the issue navigator bar.

  4. Type in your query that you want to translate into JQL

  5. Voila! Your search results, along with the JQL string translation, will appear.

As we continue to develop the product, shape its direction, and iron out kinks during the beta, we need your input! With that in mind, this space is the place to ask questions, share thoughts/feelings/feedback and discuss the new functionality with myself and the product team. Whatever you have to say - we want to hear it.

If you want to give feedback in private or speak with me directly, please feel free to book some time in my calendar using this link.

While this group will be used to discuss a variety of Atlassian Intelligence features as they become available, posts from myself will be focused on this feature specifically.

Welcome to a better way to find issues in Jira!

Cheers,
Jordan Koukides | Product Manager, Jira Cloud

@Jordan Koukides I received this notification, and I similarly received one for Atlassian Intelligence (AI) for Confluence.  I had to configure Confluence to enable AI; is there a similar configuration I need to alter to enable AI for Jira Cloud?  I'm not seeing the AI option in Jira as I do in Confluence (or as visible in your above images).  Excited to try this out... so please advise (and thanks in advance!!).

Agreed, any estimate on when AI will be available to the other products for those that were approved? It seems that many of us that use 2+ Atlassian products have only been given access to one. I am waiting on JSM and Confluence as an example and only have access to JS.

Hi @Randy O_Neal

We are conducting incremental rollouts for the early-access programs of each of these new AI features - however due to the nature of these rollouts being targeted to users of different products, there may be cases in which users are enrolled in one AI program, but not the others.

However we really appreciate your excitement to test the Jira AI search, and your instance meets our criteria to be enrolled in early-access - so we are pleased to inform that you should now have Jira AI as an option in your admin settings (the same place where you configured Confluence AI).

Hope you enjoy, and we are excited to hear your feedback!

@Jordan Koukides thanks so much, I can't wait to try it out!  I have followed the configuration directions for Confluence AI, and it's still the only option I see... I do not see Jira available to activate.  I'll keep checking back, assuming there's some caching happening somewhere.  But... just in case there isn't, there may be something else that needs to be set to include us.

Once again... thanks so much for letting us into the Beta, we'll be sure to provide feedback!

@Jordan Koukides I'm in now... but the AI button is not showing in the JQL search options under Basic Search.  I'll keep monitoring...

Hey @Randy O_Neal

Sorry for the confusion, we've updated the community blog post to further clarify how you can access this feature.

Could you please follow these steps and let us know if this resolves the issue?

Keen to hear back from you!

@Ho Kim , Found it.  Thanks!  Interesting, the very first query I attempted resulted in an error:

I've been able to successfully try several other natural language queries, and I've been happy with the results so far.  I'll be sure to provide more feedback as it arises.  Is that feedback channel here, or elsewhere?

Glad you are enjoying the feature @Randy O_Neal - as you can tell we are still working on improvements, hence the beta status. Feedback like this is always super helpful to us!

The easiest way to pass on comments would be to use the thumbs up/down buttons in the lower right of the feature (under the JQL/basic switcher). If you are ok with it, checking the box to allow us to see your natural language query is a big help for us to narrow down exactly how we can improve responses.

Once you've had the chance to play around with the feature in more detail, I'd love to book in some time to get your feedback in more detail over Zoom. If/when this sounds of interest to you, feel free to choose a time in my calendar via this link!

^ This offer is open to anyone reading this thread :)

Great and exciting features team and thank you for adding our instance to Confluence editor AI. We are already seeing the benefits for our use cases. Please consider adding us in for the natural language search

Sure @Will Le! - can you send me your instance's URL to my email?

sent this in via an thumbs down issue but the AI recognizes the capabilities of the marketplace add-ons (we used to have it in our ecosystem at some point) but it created a JQL logic using scriptrunner capabilities flawless but could not parse the results because scriptrunner doesn't exist in our ecosystem anymore.

- never mind -
I just found the answer, and can't delete this post.

This is really neat and will save me time on being asked to create very specific filters for co-workers.

Will it be accessible eventually from the ****.atlassian.net/issues page? That's where we do our searching, rather than inside projects only.

Hey @Emelin Ringuette glad you're enjoying the feature!

We've definitely got plans to add AI search to the global issues page. We are incrementally rolling out the new issue navigator experience into the ****.atlassian.net/issues page for all sites by March 2024. Once we've rolled out the experience to your site you should be able to access AI search from the issues page.

alampreave September 29, 2023

When do you plan to rollout this feature for Jira Service Management? All of our projects ara JSM :(
Do we have to wait for March '24?
Angel.
