So you want to answer questions on the Atlassian Community. (Thank you!) How do you find questions to answer? In fact there are lots of different ways, and this article will run through a few of them. If you have any other methods, drop them in the comments.
I want to find all the questions!
If you want a firehose of all possible questions on the community, go to this link. You’ll get a feed of all questions without answers, sorted by recency. That’s about 150 questions per day!
Okay maybe not all the questions.
Would you rather see questions only about a particular product? Say, one that you happen to know something about? First, navigate to the collection for that product by clicking the product name in our directory.
From there you can click “Questions” and then check “Unanswered.” It will look something like this:
I like that, but can the questions just magically appear in email?
They sure can! While you’re on the collection homepage, try clicking “Watch” in the right-hand sidebar. You can choose to watch the questions for a particular collection. Then you will be emailed as they come in.
(Note: You can change this so you are notified in a daily or weekly digest, as opposed to instantly. Click your avatar > Manage settings > Notifications > Settings.)
What about magically appearing over Slack?
You might have noticed you have the option to grab an RSS feed from the Watch page too. Here is how you can easily add that RSS feed to Slack.
Advanced tip: you can grab an RSS feed for a filtered search in the sidebar of the search results page. Check out an example here.
What about cloud or data center?
Community tags will tell you the hosting type if the user selected one when asking the question. Try personalizing your homepage feed. This feature lets you specify exactly what kind of content you want to see on the homepage. Do you only want to see questions with no replies, tagged data center, that are in the Jira Service Management collection? You can!
Not only that, you can select multiple products and content types. Just go to community.atlassian.com to set up your homepage feed. The community will remember your preferences once you set them. You can click "Reset" to restore the defaults at any time.
Thanks again for answering questions! I hope this helps. :)
