How to migrate your existing line, link, and text content

Last week, we announced the upcoming launch of the Content editor, a new home for all your content editing needs. We’re excited to announce that this editor is now available to create new text, links, dividers, and more! As a result, you can no longer create line, link, and text elements using the old functionality. Any existing content elements on your dashboard will require a migration to be compatible with the editor’s new features.

How will the migration work?

While we'll handle the migration of your old link, line, and text elements in the coming months, we highly recommend that you migrate them on your own. This ensures you maintain control over the formatting and become familiar with the editor’s features.

You'll need to recreate your old link, line, and text elements with the Content editor and remove the old ones to ensure your dashboard only contains content created using the editor.

To assist you with the manual migration, we’ve created step-by-step migration instructions.

ℹ️ A note on downloading dashboards that use content created with the Content editor:

When you download a dashboard or receive a copy of the dashboard through dashboard subscriptions, you may notice that any area where you've placed content using the Content editor will display an error message. We know this can be frustrating, and our team is actively working to resolve this issue. Follow this ticket for further updates: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/ANALYTICS-140

How to migrate existing link, line, and text content elements

To begin this process, open the dashboard you wish to migrate content elements from so that you can use it as a reference when you recreate it. Avoid deleting your old content element before you create your new one. This will help you replicate it in the exact way that you did before.

Each content element will have its own migration steps. Once you've identified the content element you want to recreate, follow the instructions below that correspond to the type of content you're creating.

Migrate your link

  1. Copy the link that you want to migrate.

  2. Select Content from the dashboard’s side panel. The Content editor will appear.

  3. Place the Content editor near your old link.

  4. Paste the link into the editor. Depending on the link type, you can select whether you want to display it as an Inline, Card, or keep it as a URL. After you select your preferred view type, select Save.

  5. To finish the migration, hover over the old link element, select More actions (…), and Delete.

  6. You can now use the drag handle to place your link in the same location as the old one.

Migrate your line

The Content editor doesn’t support the creation of lines. However, you can use the “Divider” in the editor as a line or to break up your dashboard's content:

  1. Identify the line you want to migrate so that you can use it as a reference.

  2. Select Content from the dashboard’s side panel. The Content editor will appear.

  3. Place the Content editor near your old line.

  4. Select Divider and select Save.

  5. To finish the migration, hover over the old line element, select More actions (…), and Delete.

  6. You can now use the drag handle to place your divider in the same location as your old line.

Migrate your text

  1. Identify the text you want to migrate so that you can use it as a reference.

  2. Select Content from the dashboard’s side panel. The Content editor will appear.

  3. Place the Content editor near your old text.

  4. Copy your old text and place it into the editor. Apply your preferred text and styling formatting options and select Save.

  5. To finish the migration, hover over the old text, select More actions (…), and Delete.

  6. You can now use the drag handle to place your text in the same location as the old one.

Note: If you've used custom colors or font sizes to create your old text, you might not find an exact match in the Content editor because we've replaced these customization options with ones that are standard and accessible.

To find a suitable alternative to your custom text colors, use our color palette to select a color that closely resembles your previous text color. Likewise, you can visually align your font sizes to our available options. Here is a guide you can use to determine how your font size can carry over in the new editor:

Old font size options  New font size options

Heading 1

Heading 1 (bold)
Heading 2 Heading 1 (bold)
Heading 3 Heading 1 (bold)
Paragraph Normal text
Comment Normal text (italics)
Custom style

Font size up to 14 → Normal text

Font size 15 to 19 → Heading 3

Font size 20 to 23 → Heading 2

Font size 24 and above → Heading 1
