Is there any way to force the login page from a stale session?

Ive noticed that Confluence and JIRA both keep open a stale session and the session never times out, it isnt until you try to access the stale browsing session by clicking on something until it reverts you back to the login page.

Is there anyway to force the login after a certain length of time?

I am not aware of a method to force the stale sessions to revert to the login page, but I use a Chrome extension called "Super Auto Refresh" to keep sessions from timing out.
