Still not possible! Is it limited to the license level? Why is it so complex to just rename a group? Besides, is there a way to know where groups are used for restrictions (page links)?

Hi all, I'm the Product Manager who owns this feature, taking over from Kieren, and am happy to address ongoing questions.
Today, 95% of organizations can rename groups through the centralized user management experience, including any new org created today. We're continuing to roll this out to the remaining organizations in coming months but also want to ensure we address all the edge cases that existed for more complex organizations. As you would have noticed, this has extended our original timeframe, but we're still focused on bringing these features to all customers.
If you have questions about the state of your own organization, I'd suggest reaching out to our support team who can give you information specific to your organization.

Hi everyone, I’m a product manager working on making group rename accessible to all organizations – taking over from Rob. We’re making steady progress towards rolling this out for everyone. As of today, 99.2% of organizations have access to group rename, and we are closing in on making this accessible to the final few. Stay tuned for further updates and thanks all for your patience.

Hi all, happy to share some good news – as of today this feature has been released to all customers on our cloud products.
We also now allow most groups used in Jira administration to be renamed, though there are still some limitations on renaming IdP-synced groups and groups used in Jira Service Management Assets and Approvals. You can track our progress on unblocking these limitations at ACCESS-800 and ID-8092.
Thanks for your patience over the past year as we’ve worked on making this feature available for everyone!

Finally, been waiting for this for the last two years. Great news indeed! :D
@Kalvin Xu Would it be possible to rename a group synced via IdP if you unlink it first? Because it would be amazing if we could stop having to create new groups and update all permissions in Jira and Confluence just because the organization decides to rename a team or division for the 27th time 😅
@Kieren any update on when we are actually getting this? It's been a year since this announcement and looking at the comments here a lot of customers still don't have the possibility to edit group names.

Thanks all for your comments!
@Tobias H There are some technical challenges around enabling renaming for IdP-synced groups, but we're on the early path towards unblocking them. Keep an eye on ACCESS-800 for future updates.
@Michael We're actively working to allow group renames to sync to automations - expect an update on this soon.
@Pedja Mandic Renaming groups is now available to all customers on our cloud products (not yet on Data Center). If you're a cloud customer and still having trouble, please get in touch with us here https://support.atlassian.com/contact/#/.
We create our groups over Azure. However, when I change the group names I created from there, it does not edit / sync the name. Is there a development about this?
