Channel notification in Microsoft Teams for Jira Cloud application

Hello Community!,

If you are looking for the ways how to notify your team about Jira tickets updates in Microsoft Teams - Channel notifications feature of Jira Cloud application by Atlassian is for you.

Channel notifications allows you to configure notifications when ticket is created/updated or comment created/updated in specific Jira project. And you shouldn't be a Jira admin for that.

In order to configure notifications for your channel or group chat in Teams please add Jira Cloud application to your team or chat firstly.

Then go to the preferred channel or chat itself and call notifications or help command from Jira Cloud application (@Jira Cloud notifications/@Jira Cloud help)

After running the command you will see the bot response from where you can start notifications configuration

That is initial configuration screen you will see if there is no active configurations for this channel/chat.

Click "Add new" button, it will open notification configuration screen:

On this screen you can configure notifications for specific Jira Cloud project you have an access to. You can select filtering by issue type and/or priority

or you can switch to JQL mode and configure the filtering more specifically to your needs

Note:

So far we are supporting next events:

issue_created
issues_updated
comment_created
comment_updated

Also, you can configure just one configuration per project, but you can always modify the previous configuration.

After saving the configuration Jira Cloud will send the message to the channel/chat with details about new configuration. This will help you track the configuration changes.

You can change this configuration later by clicking "Make changes" on the card or by calling Jira Cloud bot help/notification command again

This time you will see the card with a list of all projects from where you are receiving notifications

After clicking "Make changes" you will see the popup with all configurations, where you can add, edit, remove or mute configuration.
Each change to the configuration will send the message to the chat, so your team will be notified about that.

Note:

Any authenticated user of Jira Cloud that is member of the channel or that chat can change the previously configured notification settings.

If you have an access to specific ticket, you can edit or comment the issue directly from the channel, by simply clicking "Comment" or "Edit issue" buttons on the card.

I really hope that this feature will make you communication in the team a bit easier and will help to use all the Jira Cloud application capabilities effectively. Happy notifying! 😀

The notification filtering by a specific field might be achieved by the JQL. But the changed keyword is applicable to the default fields only :)
