Hello,

I would like to configure my XRay Project to restrict user access depending on their role :

  • With Role Tester, I want user
    • can create test execution
    • cannot create test cases
    • cannot create test plan
  • With Role Test Writer, I want users
    • Can create test cases
    • cannot create test plan
    • cannot create test execution
  • With Role Test Manager, I want users
    • can create test cases
    • can create test plan
    • can create test execution

How to manage it with Jira permission and workflow ? It seems their is not permission depending on the user role and issue type.

Hi Antoine,

I understand how challenging these Jira permission settings can be. Since this aspect primarily concerns Jira itself rather than Xray, your best course of action is to refer to Atlassian’s documentation for configuring permissions:

This article might not be the most relevant one, but it’s definitely a good starting point:

https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirakb/using-custom-permission-schemes-838416400.html

Additionally, Xray Cloud offers a set of settings that align with Permissions, specifically related to workflows, such as:

  • Disallow executions of Tests with workflow statuses
  • Disallow executions with workflow statuses

If you manage to find a solution that meets your requirements, please share it with the group.

Best regards, Francisco

Hi @Antoine BUHOT

could you already have a look into the information provided by @Francisco Fonseca _Xray_  ?

Please be so kind to give an update/feedback if this could be solved or if you need any further guidance.

As Francisco already mentioned the workflow option - this would need a separate workflow for each issue type (even if they are identical) and then limit the "create" transition to your specific roles.

Adding to this option there might be a way to solve this via scriptrunner (in case this plugin is installed in your instance).

Looking forward to your feedback.

Thanks in advance

Best
Stefan
