How to use Confluence Page Examples

Elena Zanchetta August 22, 2024

Are you looking for Confluence page examples?

Then you are in the right place! We selected three ways to make your Confluence pages in Cloud and Data Center more appealing to your users. We will first examine basic editor tools, then tabs and how they can help you better structure your pages, graphs and visualizations using Viewtracker macros, and lastly, Confluence page templates featuring a new Viewtracker Page Template for Data Center.

Editor Tools

First, look at the most important editor tools you should know about. All those tools are available in Confluence Cloud and Data Center. When you work with Confluence, macros are essential and offer various functionalities. To insert a macro, you can type / (slash) in Cloud or { (opening curly brace) in Data Center and search for the name of the macro. We will now have a look at some helpful editor tools and macros.

  • Headings: They are handy for structuring your Confluence page, especially when combined with a table of contents macro that automatically creates a table of contents based on the titles you used.
  • Children Display Macro: This macro shows you all the current page’s child pages (subpages).

  • Roadmap Planner Macro: It creates straightforward, visual timelines that are beneficial for planning virtually any task.

  • Expand Macro: This macro displays an expandable and collapsible section of text on your page, making large blocks of text much more readable.

Confluence Tabs: A Practical Way to Organize Your Content

One common challenge when creating Confluence pages is their potential to become overly long. However, with tabs, you can save your users from endless scrolling. This approach allows you to divide long pages into thematic tabs, enabling users to jump directly to the section that interests them. Here’s a Confluence page example of how this could look:

Tabs offer even more advantages. For example, existing Confluence pages can be inserted as tabs, avoiding duplication of content, or you can embed iframes. For example, this can help you create a page for a cross-team project. In this way, all project-related pages can be brought onto one page without making it needlessly long.

Some apps allow you to customize the look of your tabs to enhance the design of your Confluence page further. To ensure that your Confluence design aligns with the company style, you can choose the color of the tabs and add icons to make them more appealing.

Please note that tabs are not a built-in feature in Confluence. To find out which app solution best fits your company’s needs, check out our comparison

Graphs and visualizations

When creating the homepage for your space, a broad overview of the activity in your space is very helpful. Users can then quickly see which pages have been added or modified, which pages have been viewed the most and other insights. This is an example of how this could look like:

The Viewtracker app used the Analytics Report macro to create this overview page. This macro allows you to select the metrics you want to display and choose the form of presentation. The analytics macro can also be used in combination with a tab solution.

Confluence templates

Templates are a great way to structure your Confluence pages. When creating a new Confluence page, you don’t have to start from scratch and have some topic-relevant guidance on where to start and what to consider. Atlassian offers many great Confluence templates on the website for free. Their templates cover personal templates, human resources templates, productivity templates and more. The most used template at bitvoodoo is the bitogether, which we use for our weekly company-wide meeting. Other templates we like to use are the “Work trip planner,” the “HR knowledge base management,” and the “Capacity planning.”

For Analytics in Confluence Data Center, there is a template that comes with the Viewtracker app. When inserting it on a page, you automatically see pre-crafted reports on your space's most important usage metrics. Read on here to find out more about the Analytics Template.

Transform Your Confluence Pages with These Essential Tips

Incorporating tabs, graphs, visualizations, and pre-built templates can revolutionize how your team interacts with Confluence. These strategies enhance page organization and aesthetics and provide valuable insights. With a focus on user experience, you can create engaging and informative Confluence pages that drive collaboration and productivity.
