New file formats are coming to the Midori exporter apps

Since it was released in 2019, we regularly shipped new features and integrations to Better PDF Exporter Cloud, on top of maintenance and compatibility releases.

However, a special task force of the Midori product team has been busy with a much larger, wider scale rework of the platform of Better PDF Exporter. Their goal was to grow away from being just a PDF exporter and make it a general platform to build new exporter capabilities on.

This ambitious work came to fruition and Better PDF Exporter Cloud 3.0.0 has seen the light of day. The new version is now generally available for Jira Cloud customers on the Atlassian Marketplace.

If you know the app, will you notice any difference?

Hardly.

Why is this - mainly under the hood - improvement so important then?

2021: A new era has started for the Better Exporter app family

Creating a common platform for the Midori exporter apps allows us to write more efficient code and makes it easy to leverage synergies across our exporter apps. So while there is not much visible change, you will still benefit by having a product that has improved resilience, shorter Mean Time To Repair (MTTR), and options for deploying new features, faster.

The Midori PDF and Excel Exporter apps for Jira Server and Data Center are loved by thousands of customers across continents and industries. Over the past decade, they achieved a prominent status on the Atlassian Marketplace and in customers' daily workflows.

Now that a new era of cloud is here, we are working to introduce our apps on Atlassian's cloud platform as well to establish a similar foothold. Our motivation with this platform update is that the Midori apps remain the most feature-rich, most scalable, and secure exporter apps for Jira Cloud.

Our enhanced app platform will enable us to better serve increasing usage, provide steady, predictable performance at all times and adjust to rigorous security requirements from Atlassian.

Next up: Excel export for Jira Cloud

The platform update in Better PDF Exporter Cloud 3.0.0 has another important goal. Our team has been working on this next-generation platform to enable adding support for new export file formats with relative ease.

The near-term result of this will be something many have been waiting for: Better Excel Exporter for Jira Cloud!

Long-term plans: exporting new file formats

If we are able to add Excel file format, what stops us from adding even more formats like Word, CSV, or others?

Well...nothing!

Our new generalized exporter platform makes other file formats pluggable, and we are open to introducing even more file formats like:

  • Microsoft Word documents (*.docx)
  • Custom JSON, XML, or CSV files for data exchange with external tools
  • HTML snapshots
  • Image snapshots
  • Your desired output!

We want to know what output file format would be critical for you, so let us know!

Open a support ticket with us, so we can register your requests and place them on our roadmap.

Migrating from Server/Data Center to Cloud

Migration is a fairly risk-free and easy process with Better PDF and Excel Exporter! Your Excel and PDF templates need to be merged with the new cloud-specific ones, but only if you customized them. If you don't have custom templates, you don't have to do anything!

Your default templates will be waiting for you when you install the apps on Jira Cloud!

For more detail and feature comparison visit the migration guide.
