Jira provides a wealth of reporting options to track your project progress. One of the many helpful reports is the "Average Time in Status" report. This report offers teams a clear understanding of how long issues spend in various workflow statuses, enabling data-driven decisions to improve process efficiency and identify bottlenecks.

What is the Average Time in Status Report?

The Average Time in Status report in Jira calculates the mean time an issue spends in each workflow status. By analyzing this data, teams can better understand where delays occur and optimize their workflows for faster delivery.

Built in Jira Gadgets for Average Time in Status

Follow the below steps :

Navigate to Dashboards. Go to the Dashboards menu in Jira. Select Create Dashboard.

Provide Dashboard Details

Name your dashboard. Optionally, provide a description. Select whether you want the dashboard to be private, shared, or available to a specific group.

Add Gadgets

Once the dashboard is created, click Add Gadget. Choose the “Average Time in Status “ or “Average Age Chart” gadget that are relevant to the insights you want to monitor.

Configure each gadget with the appropriate filters, projects, or JQL queries. Average Age Report & Average Time in Status chart are as shown below

If you need to find average time in status data from a particular date range, you can select the report "Average Time in Status" per time grain" and select your needed date range from the "Additional Criteria" drop down. The app will track time in status data between the date range you selected & show time in status, date/week/month wise as per your selection.

Another useful report is the Average Time with Assignee. This can help determine the productivity of team members ie how much time they are taking to complete tasks assigned to them
