Want to save yourself and other users time, and reduce context-switching between Jira and Confluence?
Rather than hopping between the two and risking losing track, you can easily create Jira issues right from your Confluence page. Whether you want to create issues yourself or help other users submit issues while they’re still in confluence, take advantage of these two methods to boost collaboration and streamline reporting.
1. Head to your Confluence page and press E to enter edit mode.
2. Type the shortcut /jira on your Confluence page and select Create Jira issue.
3. A dialog box will appear. Fill in the details, including:
The project the issue belongs to
The issue type
The status of the issue
A summary and description
Any attachments
The parent issue (if applicable)
4. Click Create and then Update/Publish on your Confluence page to view it on the page, like below:
This option is a quick and easy way to create a single Jira issue without leaving Confluence. But if you want to help other users create issues without handing over access to your Jira board, you can do this with Forms for Confluence.
With Forms for Confluence, other users can submit form responses that automatically pull through as issues on a linked Jira project.
Why choose this option? By embedding a form in a place that users already know and use, such as your Confluence knowledge base or intranet, helps reduce context-switching on a larger scale and ensures that requests and reports don’t get missed.
The form-to-issue solution is great for helping users report bugs, request hardware or software, and submit support tickets, as a few examples.
To get started, you first need to install Forms for Confluence (you can try it free for 30 days).
Then, head to the Forms for Confluence app homepage and link the app to your Jira instance - just follow our documentation to set it up once.
Once that’s done, all you need to do is create a Jira Task Form! Here’s how to create one:
1. Create a new page or open an existing one, then select the Forms for Confluence app icon in the page toolbar.
2. A dialog box will appear. Select Jira Task Form and then click Continue.
3. Choose a form name, description, and add any collaborators. Select
Next: Jira Settings.
4. On the next page of the dialog, choose your linked Jira project, ticket type, and details such as the issue assignee. Click Proceed.
5. Edit your form details in the editor and add (optional) extra fields, such as a due date you like. Then click Save.
6. Click Publish/Update in the top-right corner of your page to set it live. Here’s an example of a form in Confluence for reporting a bug.
When you press the Submit button, it will automatically create an issue in your chosen Jira project, just like this:
And that’s all there is to it! Whether you want to create a single issue from your Confluence page or automate it for all your users, these solutions can cut context-switching and help you (and your team) can do more in less time.
