Jira's backlog is a vital tool for agile teams, allowing them to see upcoming work and prioritize accordingly. However, by default, Jira doesn't show sub-tasks in the backlog. There are a few workarounds that you can read about here, but unfortunately they all have limitations.
In this article, we wanted to share the simplest way of subtask visualization with the Planyway plugin. While the app primarily focuses on roadmapping and time tracking, it provides some helpful features for managing your project board and backlog that includes subtask visualization.
Planyway visualizes the timeline view on the same page with you Jira board/backlog/sprint. Among the extra features, you will find two view available: Kanban or List. Plus, you’re able to use grouping by Epics and filter for unassigned cards.
Then, each Jira issue, no matter what issue type is, you can expand it to view editable subtasks beneath, with assignees and chosen dates. By the way, subtasks are also visible on the timeline view along with regular Jira issues.
