How to Control Preparation for ApptoberFest with SLA Time and Report for Jira?

When autumn begins, people divide into two parts: the first, who has been preparing for Oktoberfest or Halloween since the beginning of the year, and the second, who prepares for everything at the last minutes. ðŸ™‚

However, here is a community of people gathered who know about another event that also needs a lot of attention and preparation. We are talking about Apptoberfest.

Regardless of the type of people, everyone's goal is to have an exciting and stress-free celebration, so we have prepared an article on how to do it more effectively. For example, we will review what we do ourselves – preparation for participation in Apptoberfest with SLA Time and Report for Jira. We hope this will be helpful for other members.

As it’s known, Oktoberfest and Apptoberfest start every year on the 1st of October. Each company or maybe person who is interested in such events would like to visit it, OR, at least, take part online. The preparation process is both exciting and difficult, so you should present your apps to a wide range of people worldwide.

First of all, to prepare for this event, you should control the assembly process. Let's break our preparation into several steps:

Step 1 – Create an organizational meeting, and gather a team who will go to Apptoberfest.

Let’s set the deadline until September 21, 2024.

To set it in SLA Time and Report for Jira, you should use the Negotiated Date for SLA config - this means that everything should be done by the end date.

Step 2 – Then you need to create a new Sprint with the tasks that should be done.

Step 3 – Add a Due Date field to the format of your tasks to control what time you have to complete the included task.

SLA Time and Report for Jira will count how much time is left for the end date when the task is created for the responsible team member (for example, Jane is an organizer of this trip).

Step 4 – The next steps depend on your plans. Let’s continue with hotel reservations.

So, the next day, you should find a hotel where you will live during the festival. Imagine that Peter is responsible for this part of the organizing process. The deadline is the 22nd of September.

What about the plane tickets? It’s one of the most important things!

So, you create one more task – order plane tickets – the deadline is 23rd of September. Choose the team member that will be responsible for this (or select the ones you have mentioned above).

You can control how much time is left before the journey begins directly on the SLA Time and Report for Jira grid. All the valuable details are in a single safe place, with the ability to Export for further edits if necessary.

Do you want to control the execution time not only by the date but also by monitoring how long it takes to close the task? Easy-peasy. Let’s go further.

For example, during the working day, you need to send a message to your boss and colleagues that you will be absent from the office next month. So they can plan their tasks according to your absence and don’t have any delays.

It is possible to control with the help of SLA Time Goal which is available in SLA Time and Report for Jira too. The setting is very user-friendly and time-consuming, so there won’t be any difficulties (see screens below).

Note! According to a few types of priority, you should choose the necessary one and change it if necessary during the process.

SLA Time and Report for Jira controls the workflow fully, but the priority is a major option. You can change it that way, for example:

Stage 1 - before 5 hr - change priority to High
Stage 2 - before 3 hr - change Priority if I missed this task
Stage 3 (exceeded) - Inform Jane and Peter that notification was not sent

10.pngOne more important rule working with SLAs – remember to inform colleagues when you are already at work and start doing your tasks.

When the time comes, you can control the task execution and its deadlines. That's how, with the help of SLAs, you can control not only the support department, but also track how to assemble a team for Apptoberfest (see the screen below).

The most accurate details won’t be missed because everything is displayed directly in the add-on.
