Codegeist 2024: Did Someone Say "Data-Driven Marketing" in Jira? πŸ“Šβœ¨

In our community, there are already many exciting stories about the apps teams have developed for the Codegeist 2024 hackathon. The winners will be announced on January 29th, and we can't wait to see the results! Since the project gallery opened on January 21st, it's been clear that there are so many incredible and creative apps.

Today, we're excited to share our story about participating in Codegeist 2024 (and this isn't our first time).

The Aha! Moment

Before, I had an obvious insight: there really aren't that many apps on the Marketplace tailored specifically for marketing teams. This became especially apparent during the fantastic Apptoberfest - did you notice it, too? πŸ˜‰

The start of Codegeist coincided with the beginning of our strategic planning cycle. Like any "data-driven" team, we take this process very seriously, basing our decisions on data (I've shared more on this in 5 Practical Steps to Becoming a Data-Driven Team).

While analyzing our performance, initiatives, and resource allocation, an idea came: What if we could view campaign results from Google Analytics alongside the resources spent on them (tracked as tasks) in a single report directly within Jira? This would simplify my work and save time. The team loved the idea, and we were off to the races.

Building the Campaign Analyzer

It was incredibly exciting to work on an app tailored specifically to the needs of marketing teams like ours. There were challenges along the way - this was our first time building a fully Forge-based app, and we had to navigate initial difficulties with typing methods and adapting to the platform's structure.

We also encountered hurdles with the Google API, ensuring it could fetch the required data while working seamlessly with Forge Providers. This took extensive testing and adjustments.

Despite the challenges, I couldn't be prouder of our team. They not only built a functional app but also added a unique helper, Rovo, our AI assistant. Rovo analyzes campaign data, providing insights and recommendations to help optimize strategies.

Looking Ahead

We see many opportunities to make this app more valuable for marketing teams, including the potential to integrate it with other popular tools (I'll skip the names to follow community rules, but you can imagine the possibilities!).

If you're curious, you can try our app, which is currently available via the hackathon page. We hope to make it available on the Atlassian Marketplace soon.

We're eagerly awaiting the results and wish all participants the best of luck - there are so many incredible projects that I don't envy the judges. May the best app win!

Big thanks for the opportunity to join this hackathon πŸ™ŒπŸŽ‰ - it was a fantastic experience to be part of it. 😊

Thank you for reading, and feel free to share your thoughts or your own experiences with Codegeist!
