Hello,

You can find some documentation on status definition here : https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirakb/define-new-status-or-steps-in-jira-workflow-718835875.html

When you made change in a workflow be careful if the workflow is used by multiple projects, change will be made for all projects sharing the same workflow.

You should rename the status back to Backlog, then create a new status called future backlog and edit the workflow(s) that need the new status.
