How can I restrict search functionality by user group on JIRA?

I have tried restricting searches by using custom searchers for certain fields but I could not get it working as described here: https://answers.atlassian.com/questions/191475/how-do-i-add-a-security-check-to-my-custom-searcher

Essentially I only want certain fields to not be searchable by certain user groups but not entire issue tickets. Hence if ticket123 has a value of Y for fieldX I dont want ticket123 to show up when I search fieldX=Y, however I still want ticket123 to show up if any other non-null field in it is searched for.
