Scrum master, mom, or both! The story of how Lisa manages twins with Jira

In this article, you’ll learn how a Senior Project Manager (who happens to be a new mother of twins) manages her day-to-day work schedule and her family with Jira.

As a senior project manager, Lisa barely had time to take care of her daily duties at work, let along take care of twins, Anny and Betty. To help, she hired a babysitter and leaned on the support of her WeChat circle of friends. (WeChat is a social networking platform that is very popular in China). To start, Lisa decided to use chalk on a blackboard to record weekly schedules to keep her babysitter and kids on track.

Lisa’s needs changed, however, upon discovering that chalk can be harmful in a home environment, sometimes negatively affecting a child’s health. Her chalkboard method was also lacking the flexibility that her busy and ever-changing schedule sometime demanded. Therefore, Lisa sought a solution that would allow for the:

1. Cloning and multiplexing of tasks

2. Mobile support

3. Intuitive presentation

4. Large screen display

Luckily, Lisa had 4 years of Atlassian product experience under her belt. So, she first thought of using Jira to replace the blackboard, and quickly took action. 

So, will Lisa continue to use Jira as the children grow up? Yes! She hopes to develop their time concept after they reach the age of 3 and will use some classic methods of Scrum theory, such as:

1. Timebox

2. Planning meeting

3. Review meeting

While her way of doing things is not a perfect match to Scrum's approach,  she hopes to let the children know the importance of planning and regular review through similar scenarios. Of course, Atlassian products (especially Jira) and agile process management have a high degree of adhesion, which may be used in the future development of the child.
