Upgrade Epic- US to Plan-Epic

Hello

My epics are too big, my user stories too big for single sprint. Would like to add higher levels of hierarchy to better manage my backlog.

Is there a way to "upgrade" an epic and the US it contains to the "level above" in Portfolio?

e.g. Epic moves to "plan" level and User Story moves to "Epic" level.

Thank you

@Eric Boccas -

In our organization via Advanced Roadmap, we established the following hierarchy above the normal one from Jira -

Meta Strategy

    Segment Strategy

        Roadmap Business Priority

            Initiative

                 Epic

                    Story/Task

                          Subtask

NOTE the new hierarchy rollup concept are still the same where there can only be one roll-up parent (i.e. a Story can only be a child of one EPIC, an EPIC can only be a child of one Initiative etc).

Here is a latest link describing how you can setup the hierarchy for your env via Advanced Roadmap - https://confluence.atlassian.com/advancedroadmapsserver/configuring-initiatives-and-other-hierarchy-levels-802170489.html

Hope this helps.

Best, Joseph

Helpful, thanks

@Eric Boccas  You could always break down Epics and the Stories further, so they are more manageable? This is good practice anyway..

If however you wish to have a level of hierarchy up (we do this and call them Initiatives that handle business level goals) then that is possible.

This article maybe a little outdated but covers things off for reference.
