Not being able to filter custom fields on Jira Advanced Plans

Generally had a good experience but have come across a strange issue.

I've just created two Customer Fields - User Picker (Single user) which is supposed to be a permitted field type according to

Enable custom fields to use in your plan | Jira Cloud | Atlassian Support

However the 'Filter' option is greyed out with the message - 'Filtering for this custom field type is not supported'

Does anyone know why this is and how I can get across this?

  • Advanced Roadmaps Filtering Limitations: Although the User Picker field is supported for display and use in plans, Advanced Roadmaps may still not fully support filtering for this field. The message you're seeing could be Jira's way of indicating that, even though the field can be included in a plan, it's not eligible for filtering at the plan level.

  • Workaround via Issue Filters: You might want to create JQL filters based on the User Picker field and apply these filters at the issue level. For example:

    • Create a JQL query that filters issues by a specific user in the User Picker field.
    • Use this filter to define the issues included in your plan, effectively working around the filter limitation within the plan.
  • Confirm Plan Field Configuration: Ensure that the custom fields have been properly configured and added to the plan. If the custom field was added after the plan was created, sometimes the plan needs to be re-indexed or refreshed for the changes to reflect.

Hi @Fahim Ahmed, as Cal says, there are some workarounds for filtering by custom fields in Advanced Plans.

Some Jira apps/plugins allow you to create roadmaps and other visualizations that can be filtered by custom fields (such as Visor, which I founded). In Visor, you can filter by any custom field AND create custom fields that only live in Visor.

Hope that helps. Visor is free to try, so if that sounds like it will solve your problem check us out on the Atlassian Marketplace:

Thanks both - I found this where as you say the filtering capability is limited dependent on the type of field with only 5 types permitted. Very annoying but hopefully that changes - Filter issues on your plan | Jira Cloud | Atlassian Support

Will have a think about your helpful suggestions, thanks
