Hi
I am new to xray and JIRA we are currently using Xray with JIRA cloud.
During configuration, it seems like Xray issue types like Test case, Test Set, Test plan, Test Execution has been set at the same level as Stories in JIRA.
From a QA perspective, I cannot link a Test case, Test set to a Story. Instead I have to link them to an Epic (Feature).
So, while creating reports I an unable to and this entire process is becoming very complicated and frustrating. Either I am doing it wrong or it is not correct to define Test case, Test Set, Test plan, Test Execution at the same level as Stories.
But want to know what is the correct/suggested official configuration and if others are using it the same way.
Thanks
Hi Manuel,
Thanks.. JIRA admins have now enabled the coverage to include Stories as well.
I will check, if we now link a X-ray test case to Story instead of Epic.
Thanks for the link to the Xray essentials. It will be very useful.
Thanks.
Hi @Arijit Sengupta ,
all those issue types (Story, Test, Test Set, Test Plan, Test Execution, Precondition) are standard issue types.. so they are "all at same level" lets say.
In Xray you define which issue types can be covered by tests; you define it on the Xray settings.
So, you can cover Epic, Story (and even other issue types) if they are configured to be handled as "coverable issues" (like requirement kind of issues).
If you cover a Story from a Epic, then the Epic will automatically be also covered. But you can also cover directly an Epic issue, as long as the Epic issue type has been configured to be handled as a coverable issue.
Xray has an academy and I would recommend having a look at the Essential course perhaps.
