When auto-scheduling a roadmap, how do I not have it automatically apply releases?

We are in the infancy of using Roadmaps.  I want to be able to auto-schedule to predict target start and end dates, but we are not ready to have the system automatically populate release dates.  Is there a way to have it auto-schedule but leave the release fields alone?

I saw some articles about not including releases at all in the plan, but it sounded like issues would disappear if I remove those releases.

THANKS!
