Greenhopper priorities vs ranking

What role do issue priorities have when your project is managed by Agile Scrum, where priorities are ordered by rank, instead of issue priority?

Ranking allow you to emphasize more on a group of issues rather than based on the general issue priorities.

For example, you may have 5 issues that having the same issue priority. However, there are one or two issues that having higher priority than the rest which you would want to use the ranking to rank it higher as priority.

You can further group issues by priority. That way you can use the priority to define swimlanes for example...
