How Can I Sum Up Multiple Issues into a Parent Number Field?
Whether it be an Epic and its children or a Task/Story and it's sub-tasks, we often have need to sum up the value of a number field to the parent. The question is, how do we iterate over all the children at one time, get the values and add them all up at the same time? The Answer The answer is an automation rule using the…

What Type of Jira Workflow Transition is Best?
Well, it's Jira so of course, the answer is, It Depends! And to be honest, some of the explanation has to do with personality as much as functionality. Some people like definitive paths, others are more free form and like the flexibility. So, what are we really talking about here? We are talking about the movement of…

Using a Free Jira Account is Fine ... Right?
Atlassian makes it very easy to spin up a Free Jira Cloud account. In fact, you can be in business and using Jira in a matter of minutes. Or course, that assumes that you know what you are doing in Jira, or have some relevant experience. But if you don't, that's the best way to learn. Create a Free account, take some Free…

How Do I Change Workflows/Screens/Issue Types (Schemes) for a Project?
There are various reasons why we might need to change out schemes for a project. The following information applies to Jira Cloud Company-managed projects (CMP). The Scenarios Default Schemes Perhaps we are using a default scheme and need to have something more tailored for our project. These are probably the simplest…

How Do I Create a “Template” Project in Jira?
Let’s get this out of the way first – you can’t create your own project template with out of the box Jira. Yes, there are several apps in the Atlassian Marketplace that you can use to create those if you like. Here is a link to the Marketplace: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/search?query=project%20templates A note to…

Stacked Bar Chart showing number of issues that were open at the beginning of the week by Team
See the screenshot for the desired results. But basically, how to see count of issues where the issue was open (not in a Done status category or even just status != Done) on the first day of the week by Team (or just value of dropdown custom field). This could be done with eazyBI or some other app. So in the screenshot, it…

What Good are Jira Project Categories?
To me, Project Categories are unsung heroes in the Jira ecosphere. They seem to be very rarely used in instances that I have had access to - both now and in the past. I think that's probably due to few people drawing attention to them and how they can be used. The most obvious use case is for searching for certain types of…

What Makes an Issue Done, Resolved, or Completed?
The goal of any good team or worker is to move their work to completion. Sometimes that's through Sprints in the Scrum world, or maybe the Continuous Improvement/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) of Kanban. Or maybe even good old-fashioned waterfall. Regardless, the goal is to get work done. And the goal any good task…

Examples of your Whiteboards
I am a visual learning and not very creative sometimes - more of an analytical mind. I would love to see some screenshots of some of your whiteboards (without disclosing sensitive data, of course!) to give me some good ideas of actual usage. Thank you in advance!

Jira and SharePoint integration where I can open a document in the desktop version of MS Word
I need a solution where the document is stored in SharePoint but linked to a Jira issue. From within Jira, I want to be able to click on the link for the document and it open up in the desktop version of MS Word (not in the browser). Then when saved, it is stored again in SharePoint with the link in Jira.

What are your challenges when connecting to Development Tools?
There seems to be a plethora of apps in the Atlassian Marketplace for connecting Jira to Development tools - GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Jenkins, etc. Despite so many, there also seems to be just a handful of actual development tools being connected. That being the case, what are the challenges you have found in connecting…

I have done very little with Confluence as a whole. And even less, of course, with Whiteboards. Looking forward to learning lots in the group and trying out some things. Anybody have some good case studies/scenarios?

What is the New Navigation Being Created?
There have been a lot of cosmetic changes across the Jira family of products lately. And I don't really see where this need or ask is coming from. Maybe it's a response from the Monday.com and Asana crowd that Jira's interface is outdated. But I think that overall, the people who use Jira are happy with the interface. What…

What's Your One Question?
In view of Atlassian Team '24 coming up next week, let's say you end up in the elevator at the Venetian with either Atlassian co-founder, Mike Cannon-Brookes or Scott Farquhar. Or maybe both! After some chitchat, you have time for one question. What's it going to be? Now's your big chance - what would you really like to…

What is the name of your plant?
Okay this will be different, and I hope fun! Do you have a plant in your home that you have named? If so what is the name - and a bonus if you want to tell why. Maybe it's a velvety type plant and you call it Harry. Or maybe its what is popularly called Mother-in-Law Tongue plant (known for it's sharp, spiked tip) and you…

Hi Oussema, There is no limit that I am aware of on how many projects you can create. It is certainly more than 20!! The Assignee field throughout the entire Jira family only allows one person. This is the person responsible for seeing that the work gets done. You can create a custom field that allows multiple people to be…

There is also a Standup mode to cut out the menu links and clutter to better run Standup meetings. Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/better-jira/ Chrome:…

Miscellaneous Monday - Most Exotic Animal You Have Ridden
Yep, it's Monday!! Hoping your week is off to a good start. So to help with that, let us know the most exotic animal you have ever ridden (or attempted to ride!). And if you haven't achieved that yet, then which animal would you like to give a try? Mine is probably an elephant, though I don't have a photo of it handy. It…

If a user creates a filter using the custom field and then one of the values in the custom drop down gets renamed, then the filter will be Invalid. How can I find 1) All of the current Invalid filters across the organization 2) Filters that use a particular custom…

Using JWM for Project Intake
I like to use Jira Work Management projects for the intake process of new tickets from other teams internally. This is done for a couple of reasons. 1. Building and sharing forms in JWM is very simple and easy. You can add custom fields and capture most of the data that you need. 2. It is much less expensive than adding…

Miscellaneous Monday - YouTube Guilty Pleasure

Is there a simple way to copy the user for a project role into the Approvers field?
Hey everyone - I would appreciate any help you can give. I want to populate the Approvers field with the value of a user from a selected Project Role in Jira (JSM) Cloud. However, the person in the project role will not be an Agent. If they were an Agent, I could first assign the issue to the project role and then copy the…
