Examples of your Whiteboards

John Funk

I am a visual learning and not very creative sometimes - more of an analytical mind. I would love to see some screenshots of some of your whiteboards (without disclosing sensitive data, of course!) to give me some good ideas of actual usage.

Thank you in advance!

We use whiteboards for running sprint retrospectives (from template), which makes the process a bit more fun compared to simply filling out a Confluence page.

We've also used whiteboards for brainstorming new app ideas. We set up some categories, and then anyone could add their ideas. Previously, we used a different app with better mind-mapping features (like creating linked items), which made it easier to explore ideas in more depth.

Here's an example of a (very) simple process - this is one of the main usecases I happen to have for Whiteboards (before this I'd use Vizio or Lucidchart).

I try to standardize what the shapes mean (e.g. circle is the start, diamonds are decisions, etc).

I also use them quite a bit for system mapping (incomplete as it's just an example). I find doing this visually, and having it in the same structure as other documentation, makes it very easy for new folks to get spun up.

My favorite whiteboard we've made is probably from our Roles and Responsibilities play. Here's a little preview:

We've revisited it twice and it's about time to check in again. I like that we can keep our iterations!

I tried to create a whiteboard or better, I created a whiteboard thinking I could use it as a homepage to signpost to other tools, for a client requirement. But, I didn't really manage to do anything...

The customer requirement was (ideally) while remaining in the same product to be able to edit Jira objects, have a high level overview and links to other tools, like PowerBI. I knew the Jira part was unlikely but I was really surprised I couldn't create links within the different text boxes. Am I missing something? Then, I didn't really find any documentation to help me so I wouldn't exactly recommend to use whiteboards, at least not yet anyway.

Thanks, Amanda. That helped me to understand better how to use whiteboards.
