Jira fails to change the project key

Question

Anybody else seeing this problem?

I want to change the project key. Old key = UI. New key = VISIBILITY.

* I go to Project settings/Details/Key.
* I change the project key to "VISIBILITY." See screenshot.

* The project key is not updated. See screenshot.

Looks like a bug to me. Or am I not doing it right?

* Jira did not *fail* to change the project key.
* Rather, Jira did change the project key... after several hours.

To follow up: it's fixed now! I didn't do anything more. Maybe Jira is just super slow? Changing the project key should not take six hours for a project with 40 stories, no history, and no links... and yet, somehow, it did.

Thank you! but Jira Cloud doesn't have indexing.

Do you have any other ideas? I'm especially puzzled because I have successfully changed the key on other projects. It worked before on other projects, but doesn't work on this one! The mystery deepens...
