Using Slack threads with Jira work items in PRIVATE channels

Has anyone determined if there is a permission set or setting that would allow us to use the Slack thread syncing with Jira work issues in private channels? You perform the sync thread and it immediately says the same user has unsynced the thread. Our team channels are private for focus reasons.

Thread sync does work in private channels, but the Jira app has to be a member of the channel first. The setup doc says "If you want Jira to work in a private channel, you must first invite @Jira to that channel": https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/use-jira-cloud-for-slack/

The app can only read message history in private channels it's been added to, so if it isn't in yours, the sync most likely fails and unsyncs straight away.

Quick test: in the private channel, run /invite @Jira, then paste the work item link again and pick Sync with thread.

Is @Jira already a member of that channel?
