With Offline Mode, Mobile for Jira keeps working when your connection drops: read the work you've opened, create and edit issues with no signal, and send everything to Jira with one tap when you're back.
The problem: mobile work happens where the signal doesn't
Basements, planes, plant rooms and factory floors are where real work gets done, and where connections drop. Without Offline Mode, that means:
- Lost work. You fill in a ticket, tap Create, and it fails. You retype it later, or forget it.
- Vanishing context. The issue you opened five minutes ago won't load again.
- Frozen screens. Requests wait for a network timeout, so the app feels broken rather than offline.
- No clarity. Nothing tells you whether you're offline or the app has a problem.
Offline Mode removes all four: no lost work, no dead screens.
What you can do offline
Read what you've already opened, and create or edit issues for later sending.
Capability | What you get |
|---|
Know you're offline | A red "You're offline" strip on every screen, then a green "Connection is back". It uses a real internet check, not just "Wi-Fi is on". |
Read recent work | Issue lists, issue details, boards, filters, projects, reports, calendar and timeline show the last loaded version. |
Create issues | Use the normal Create form, attachments and linked issues included, and save it to a queue. |
Edit issues | Change fields and add attachments; the edit joins the queue. |
Review the queue | A badge on the Home tab counts waiting actions. Long-press Home to open Pending actions, then edit or remove any item. |
Sync when back | A "You're back online" message, then Sync all, or send items one by one. Failed items stay with Jira's error message so you can fix and retry. |
Stay private | Saved data is kept per Jira site and account, never shared across accounts. |
How it works
You don't switch anything on. The app saves screens as you use them, falls back to them when the signal drops, and holds new work until you tap Sync.
Edits and new issues wait in the queue until you review them; failed items keep Jira's own error so nothing disappears silently.
Who it's for
- Field service and maintenance technicians: raise the ticket on the spot, photos included, and sync later.
- IT and facilities teams: walk a server room or warehouse, reopen the issue you viewed earlier, and record what changed.
- QA and hardware testers: report bugs with screenshots from RF-shielded labs.
- Construction, energy and logistics crews: capture work at remote sites and keep updating issues on the move.
- Travellers and managers: read your board on a flight and send your drafted updates on landing.
- Secure environments: keep working in Jira during the windows when devices are connected.
Good to know
Offline Mode remembers the work you've already seen; it doesn't download all of Jira in advance. Open an issue or the Create page once while online, and it's there when the signal isn't.
- Saved data has a shelf life: issue details, boards and reports about 15 minutes, issue lists 1 hour, projects and filters about 6 hours.
- Still need a connection: comments, transitions, Epic link, Sprint and Customer request changes, and Jira Service Management requests.
- Nothing is sent behind your back: you review the queue and tap Sync all. If Jira rejects an item, it stays in the queue with Jira's error for you to fix.
