Insert link back to the Jira Work Item on the Conflunce page

Rovo/Copilot/Claude can't help me :(  I've tried everything they mention.

I've also searched this forum without success.

I'm using the Form function in JIRA (not JSM) to collect issues from our supplier.
The form creates a Jira work item and also a Confluence page (for proper documentation) is created from a template.

Iv'e managed to include the Confluence page in the Jira work item.

But I also want a link from the Confluence page to the Jira work item. So both are interlinked so to speak.

Any pointers or ideas are very much appreciated!

Hi @Anders Ankartoft, this is actually a common frustration - Jira's native 'create a Confluence page' automation action is essentially fire-and-forget. It can create the page, but there's no built-in way to dynamically embed the originating Jira issue key or link into the page content at creation time (beyond manually constructing a URL string via smart values in the automation body, which is fragile and hard to maintain).

However, there is a Marketplace app that solves this problem. If you're open to them, I'd suggest taking a look at AutoPage.

AutoPage is specifically built for this workflow: it watches for Jira issue events (like creation or update), then creates (or updates in real time!) a Confluence page from a real Confluence template, one you edit visually in the normal Confluence editor. Inside that template, you place AutoPage's inline macros to pull specific Jira field values directly into the page content. You can also add a link to the original Jira issue to have a 2-way connection. It is worth repeating that the link is live and works in real time, so each time a Jira ticket is updated, the changes are reflected on Confluence and displayed in a read-only mode, leaving Jira the single source of truth.

Your template stays a proper Confluence page (not buried inside an automation rule), so updating the layout is just normal Confluence editing.

Note that there's no user-friendly way to achieve this 🫤

Apart from that, there's a feature request to improve linking Jira work items and Confluence (if, for example, you're using automation for element creation): AUTO-2100: Improve Automation for Creating Confluence Pages from Jira Issues

Also, depending on how you're linking these two, you could do this:

When using the Create Confluence page action, you can include the Jira issue's URL within the page body using smart values. This ensures the page itself contains a direct link to the work item.

* In your Automation rule, locate the Create Confluence page action.

* In the Body section (using the editor or storage format), add the smart value {{issue.url}

* When the page is created, it will contain the clickable URL of the Jira issue. If you use the Jira Issue Macro in your template, Confluence will often automatically recognize this and create a reciprocal link in the Jira issue's "Confluence pages" section.
